Thanks Barb! The Oleander is still kicking! Looks the same. Strange... Rob.. Good question. Last year I removed the plastic on March 10th for that reason that it was getting to warm inside. Only the Brackens is totally wrapped. The others have openings to breath a bit. Depending on the winter I will...

Yeah Paul.. I dunno.. Maybe we just get lucky with certain plants??? The Acuba I got was from Bill in MA. We have had -15c here at my place and not a scratch on it. Not to say it won't die by the end of the winter. But each time, like today when it warms up to 0c it looks mint again..

They had a ton of c-9 lights at CT this year. They were $ 9.99 for a string of 25... I think they put out more heat though. They only run about 60% of the day when it's around the -5C range.. Just my observations..

I am trying a couple of Trachy's without heat. The reason I use heat is so they don't completely loose all their fronds and look like crap until June/July. This way they come out looking mint. Also I really don't know if one could survive well in my climate without heat protection. It stays below fr...

Using the same method as you with the first.. 35/45 thermo cube. The only difference is that I am using a regular string of 25 c-9 lights instead of the mini lights.. A couple of my other enclosures are not heated. I haven't looked at them..

Hey Tim.. The one in the front is a DD Blanchard... It's the first winter for it. The Brackens came though last winter just fine! I'll keep you updated on this one. if it lives for me you should be good to since we're pretty much the same climate..

I probably don't even need to protect them, so this will probably be the last year. Hopefully we don't get too cold and die on me! You've been so busy that I'm sure the Oleanders weren't the first thing on your mind. I bet you really made them more hardy last year by doing what you did last year.

Mine does the same too Barb. It's about 5c at night then with day time heating it's up a little past 10c. Never had any problems with that yet! I also thing the snow will melt around the sides and if it rains I think it's still getting to the roots. I wouldn't worry too much!
