Definitely quartz...that rock you held.
Tons of old gold mines in AZ...a few small ones remain active.

I remember looking at that/and the petroglyphs from when you posted the link.....that is why I went by the mines



Tomorrow I will try and make it to where the petroglyphs are-it is a long ride but my new 100oz Camelbak should get me out there.

Yeah, some of that old abandoned equipment looked so very cool, trying to figure out what was what.
But that's when he cautioned some of those cave ceilings/walls are very unstable.
