What else do PN members do to get through a long winter?
Other than all our fussing over palms/yucca protection?
I've recently enrolled in a fitness program at Rec Centre.
Twice a week grunting and groaning at 18 "stations".
Feeling the benefits already.
Nice to get out of bed and not be stiff and sore all over.
And it doesn't cut into my beer hobby much either.
What do I do to cope with winter? Run! Or, better, drive! South, until palms are abundant.
This year, I got behind the wheel of my 1995 Nissan and drove south across Oklahoma, across Texas, across Mexico (heads up: it is WAY bigger than Texas) and up into the mountains of Belize.
Belize is beautiful. But one good wave could wipe it out. I remember our guide saying about 70% is below sea level. My wife and I went cave tubing in the jungle there tons of fun. We ate the best meal of our lives there it was a fried chicken leg and thigh and rice and peas with a local beer was really good stuff.
But our heart is still in Mexico we try to spend a month a year in the Mayan Rivera. We were married there 3.5 years ago. Our goal is to get an condo there sooner than later so we can enjoy it a bit more often.
My work is IT (computer related) my computer system I play with at home is bigger than most peoples fridges. It gets pretty ignored all summer because the summer is consumed with the yard (aka drinking beer) beside palms its computer stuff and travel and a bit of car stuff. My wife and I work very hard and try to play equally as hard.
Well, actually, Belize is above sea level, although the tourist-popular cayes are about at sea-level and so are at risk when as sea-levels rise.
I, too, like the national dish of stewed chicken (with traditional Maya flavors such as achiote, from the seeds of the Bixa orrellane shrub). Yum!
In the winter when I can't go outside in the garden?
I stay on the internet and learn about plants, animals, reptiles, cars, and stocks. before I was married I would do the same but also workout a lot. Had a single wide bed and a home gym in the bedroom, but all that went when I got married. Come to think about it I had a lot of fun before I was married. J/k

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
