Tim, I have been looking around Cochise county AZ in google maps, because they have updated maps "May 2011" street views. This is the spring after the "big freeze". This is of interest to me because of the plants in area. Although NM and West Texas seen the same kind of cold they don't have the saguaros and other plants that this county in AZ has.
I have seen lots of dead cactus/plants but I also have found plants with no cold damage at all, and even some saguaros in bloom. The big agaves in Bisbee look like real gems and are unlike any A. americana I have seen. I think they are not typical of the species, but have shown to be much hardier than the norm.
PS Sierra Vista AZ, by the golf cource area is a good place to look fopr survivers.
Bisbee type agave in Tombstone AZ, untouched. Some places seen as cold as -5F

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
