Well since I've read that Miracle Grow isn't the best fertilizer to use on my Windmill Palms, went to one of our two BIG local nursery's and bought what they had there.
I still want to supplement this with my Superthrive vitamins as well when I water. Hopefully I'm moving back in the right direction in doing things the proper way. I'll keep using the Miracle Grow for my Banana's
MG isn't necessarily bad for palms but the high
N one isn't the best choice.
They do make another product(at least)that
is like 12-8-12 or something like that-this one would be better.
I just sprinkled some Palm Tone around the base of some inside tropicals. My dogs all followed me and promptly started to nose through the dirt as they seemed to like the nasty smell of the organic fertilizer. (much to my wifes dismay) As they made a mess of dirt on the floor.
So make sure you have some sort of hand rake to rake it into the soil a little bit before watering as well. I found it's so powdery it acted like some sort of water barrier and water beaded up and tried to flow away...and another mess lol
Just went out and bought 3 bags of river pebble(small stuff) and put it over the dirt. That way in the future when I fertilize with the organic stuff it will get below the rock and hopefully dogs won't try so hard to get to it, and it won't bead up and run off as much.
More and more palm folks are recommending lower P (of the N P K formula).
Apparently palms don't need much phosphorus at all.
But more of the K (Potassium), which seems to be the "cure" (if there is one) for Lethal Yellowing.
Or at least prevent LY.
