Musa Growth

Post by tropical_niagara »

Hi,

Newbie here ..... I have been reading the posts and following along for the past few weeks while waiting for my account to be activated. Great info from everyone, can't wait to take part in the conversations.

Ok, my question -I have a Musa from Broadway in St. Kitts (great plant) that has been outside since May 08 (seen a few cold nights, but it is in a pot, so I have been sure to place it next to the house for additional protection).... only min. leaf damage on the first two original leaves. This plant is now growing very well - two new leaves this long weekend alone - but here is my question, the plant doesn't seem to be growing vertically .... is this normal?

The stock is getting thicker (breaking out of the original skin) and the leaves are coming out one after another - but the vertical growth just isn't there....

Any comments would be great --- I love this plant, and all of my neighbours think I am crazy ..... lol!

The leaves start out vertical but they do start to grow some what horizontal once they are out of the trunk.
Try posting a pic so I can see what is actually happening.

tropical_niagara,

I was just a Broadway today....picked up a Trachy, Pindo, Bismarck.!!!
As far as your Musa goes, I bring mine in every night and out every morning once the sun is out. I water everyday...lots...well draining of course.

Go to http://www.corollatropicals.ca

The owner is Ryan and he has a lot of info...this is where I got my Musa and they were bigger and cheaper than Broadway. I got my first in March or Early April and it was about 6 inches tall, now it's about 2 feet!

Musa's are awsome!
