Ugly but alive

I picked up all my palms today out of the unheated storage.of 9 I have 4 left..not a good ratio but what can you do.

Silver med fan..as stated ugly but alive spear is solid

7 gallon cape hat..pulled

Sabal " birmingham" spear is ok fronds are fried

Windmill looks best of them all some leaf tip browning but ok

Sabal Minor "blue pot special" 2 in this pot one pulled the other did not

RIP to a green med fan, needle in the ground, the cape Hat, Butia and a Waggie. I will replace the Waggie the rest are compost..might get another Cape Hat. All might spear pull later on but there alive for now.

Oh Mike, that hurts. How awful, especially losing the green Med.

Fingers crossed the rest don't pull.

Hate to hear all the bad news Mike. Im right there with you, after this recent warm up everything I have in the ground started going down hill. Only indoor palm I lost was my Bismarkia.

darn it, mike.
and some palms take a long time to die.
They sure suffered this winter.

A shame really, unheated storage is not a place for potted palms.

Hate to hear it. But on a bright note, our Lowes is loaded with silver euro palms rights now. You might be able to replace it.

our lowes never gets any cold hardy palms..all the blue pots come from walmart around here.ill be on the look out the next few weeks

Can anyone explain what's the problem with blue pots, some say black pot palms are more hardy then those in blue is that true or just a stupid joke?

Had two Blue pot Needle Palms both died after first year in the ground, where the 3rd one I had from Jungle Music lived on.

2 years ago I had a smaller 5 gal blue pot Trachy and Pindo (Monrovia I believe). Both toast... Not a big fan of Monrovia in general, even for zone friendly plants.

Not that I've bought 100's of palms but seem to have much better luck buying from independents where palms were germinated and grew from seedlings in somewhat of a colder climate close to what I experience.

Stuff from Steve Anderson has been rock solid, as well as Jungle Music.

Just ordered from Chilly Palm Tree for the first time, so will see what that product is like.

Thats the sad part I got the cape hat and the waggie from steve and I know he sells top notch palms. The birmingham I got from him is the only one alive. I also agree that getting the palms from someone who grows in a colder area is best. no cold hardy palm that has lived its life in south Florida is going to make it in my winter no matter what color pot its in.

All of potted palms died except the one my Brazoria Palmetto was the only survivor. All windmills died outside except for one lucky one. All sabal palms lived but still waiting on the Brazoria and other cabban palms.

As of Sunday may 11 Broazria and Oldeist cabbae palm lived.
