Cold Hardy Palms in NJ

If anyone is around the Northern NJ area, just thought I'd let them know that Corrado's in Clifton, NJ has 3.5 gallon Trachy's and chamaerops humilis (Mediterranean dwarf palms) on sale. Normally $34.99, 25% off, so they're about $26. All seem healthy. I bought a few Trachy's and 1 Humilis. Fingers crossed for a good future!

I'll take some pics soon. The soil here has a lot of clay and shale. So far they seems to have done ok with transplanting shock. I'll probably protect them somewhat this winter to give them a fighting chance. They also had a few Musa Basjoo's that were being sold as a bundle with other "tropicals." They seemed healthy and cheaper than online, but I have no idea where they are from. The palms are Monrovia. Will check them again to see if maybe they reduce them more. Anyone have luck growing palms in such dense soil like here in inland central NJ?

we don't have clay-ish soils here.....mostly sand based soils due to the glaciers in the past.

At least here in western central NJ, I can tell you first hand, if you had a potters wheel, you could make a lot of pottery here. And after digging about a foot or so deep, the layers of shale are like an archeological dig.

Home Depot in West Windsor has 50% off all trees, including cold hardy palms. They have some really nice looking ones. For $12.50, you really can't go wrong.
