Reminiscing the past and enjoying the present!

Hit 90 degrees officially in my yard today and with dewpoints in the low 70s it was definitely a nice, hot, muggy day. Love days like this. Just over a month ago I had the worst devastating May freeze I can ever remember ... and it came in an already cold spring. This past week has been very nice and warm, so I'm hoping we have turned the corner.

I wanted to share some pictures from earlier in the year which shows where I started, what the freeze/cold May did to my plants, and finally some current pictures showing things really bursting into life.

Just planted - about 10 days after average last frost date ... early May ... lookin' good!



Then came a gut-wrenching 29 degrees the day after Mother's Day. DOH!!!!





Then continued cold weather in May and early June equals SLOW recovery ... pic from 5/31.



Now for current pictures taken today, 6/23.

You know the drill. The first pic is always the shot showing the entire front yard!

Wow! What a solid recovery! It's hard to believe that you're in the midwest with those kinds of plants. How soon until you can eat some of those citrus fruits?

Those ensetes are beasts too! I remember when they were just some small 2 gallon plants *nostalgia* I didnt think papaya plants grew that fast either....

Thanks everyone! I hopefully will be able to eat the citrus before fall. Man that stuff ripens slowly! LOL. So far I've gotten about 10 inches of rain in the last 2 months. An inch fell today so far. Just the opposite of last year!

And no phoenix sylvestris. LOL. As cool as they are, I think they'd be doomed to fail up here!
