Semi-off topic: CIDP moves to the Oregon coast
As a teacher, I get summers off. As with last year, I'm driving to Oregon to visit family and escape the OK heat (will exceed 30 oC today!).
Last year, as a trial, I took two Waggies. They made the car trip through New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada etc. and were planted in July. And completely neglected since: no water, fertilizer, mulch, winter protection, anything.
Result? My parents report that this Spring they look super.
So, another haul.
This one has my CIDP. Marginal, but my parent's place is Zone 9, and has a great microclimate: south-facing slope on Neahkhanie, which juts out into the Ocean.
My largest Chameadorea radicalis. Ditto. I think it can handle it.
Two trunking sago "palms".
A Trachy (easy). Some Sabal minor I grew from seed.

Wow, has it been a year already since your last road trip to Oregon?
Glad to hear the 2 Waggies are doing well.
And the CIDP will, too, if it gets enough sun, but less rainfall than the Waggies/Trachy.
Sagos should do well, too.
A touch risky with your fav the Chamaedorea
It'll be great to read how well the Sabals settle in on the Coast.
Have a good trip!

Snow on ground here in Colorado
In Colorado now. Deep snow up on the continental divide. I tent camped last night near steamboat springs and it was chilly but rained instead of snowed. Decorated my campsite with a little Sabal minor but the rest of the plants stayed in the car.

CIDP made it
The trip west was arduous but the CIDP made it and is now planted:

CIDP in October 2013
I have not been to my parent's coastal property since June, so the plants I drove out from Tulsa and planted have been on their own.
Yesterday, I friend went there and took photos for me. I'll share a few here.
CIDP and Pelargonium (which are still in bloom!):

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
