Winer protection question

I know it's 100's out there, but I have a question for winter.
I have a Hystrix that is about 4" balled "trunk". Leaves are 6"-7".
I have it pot planted.
Also have two Takils abou the same size also pot planted.
Will they make it if I take (for each one) a tomatoe circle fence, put it around the tree, fill it up with fallen Sugar Maple leaves. Will they make it thru the Z5 Winter?

I'm certainly no expert, however If you are considering this approach I would cover the entire pot. I believe that plants left in pots are more susceptible to the cold compared to plants growing in the ground.
