Ugly but it should work.

On acreage, so nobody can see it.
H says "thank God".

Both Washingtonia filifera have C-9 Christmas lights around the base on a thermocube, piled bags of leaves, 4" fibreglass insulation near the top:

Hope this is enough air space inside:

Plastic over it all, tied:

The 3 Yucca rostrata in between the Washies have C-9s at the base on the same thermocube as Washies.

Looks like a dog's breakfast...but I'm finally ready for winter.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/8206415761/" title="007 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8063/8206 ... 8420_c.jpg" width="800" height="600" alt="007"></a>

I just hope the bagged leaves don't collapse onto the palms as they settle/freeze/thaw. :?

OK, winter, bring it on :verycold:

And H is thrilled that I raked leaves...

You probably wanted to say the leaves would quickly compress to 1/10 of their bagged size and that the palm will be sticking out of the top by New Year's..

:laughing8:

Nice work, Barb! It's always good to actually have a use for all of the leaves that we rake up
