Yucca ID
I just order this on eBay. It's listed as a blue yucca. I was thinking it is really a gloriosa. The person selling it lives in NC and it looks to have a small trunk. Obviously the hardiness rating would be off (listed as zones 3-8). What do you think?

Nice find........I agree that it's a form of Y. gloriosa/recurvifolia.

My gut says it is Y flaccida, especially if he claims zone 3? Or gloriosa, recurvifolia But gloriosa is like zone 5b/6a? and recurvifolia, even less hardy????????

I've seen some strange info on Ebay........I've seen Y filamentosa for sale but they show Y glauca in the photo with a racemose bloom.

Yes, there is a filamentosa being sold as glauca. Who knows if what you really get is species pictured or species advertised. I just received the "blue yucca" from that eBay add. It's a little root cutting with growth on it. It looks to be recurvaflori/gloriosa. It doesnt have as stiff (sharp) leaves as my variegated gloriosa more like my recurvafloria. I'm hoping when the leaves get more mature, they will stiffen up like the picture. Either way, I'm very happy with it. Great buy

Hi Kate,
you should be OK with that Ebay Yucca. Most gloriosa/recurvifolias don't have leaves like the Y. gloriosa variegata.....that's a strange one. Not sure where those genes came from.........aloifolia??

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Hey- Have a look at the USDA zone map for Southeastern Alberta, it's a zone 3 and Yucca glauca is native!
I think a flaccida (what I call filamentosa) would be hardy to zone 3, especially if there was a lot of snow. It's exposure to cold below -25C that kills the leaves. At least based on my observations.
