looks like you are just about a week ahead of us.
We had a few days in the 80's and one day in the 90's and that helped speed things along. Always nice too see the cactus start to grow.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Hi Aaron,
yes, it's always nice to see the cactus breaking dormancy.

First cactus to bloom in my garden this season. This cactus was a 'weed' cactus since I did not plant it

Nice, Tim!
Imagine cactus naturalizing at your latitude...hopefully a sign of even warmer winters to come.

Tim- O basilaris x humifusa? I don't see any spines, if I had I would say humifusa...
FYI- Have blooms coming on filamentosa, glauca, and recurv 'big tenn' x filata #1... Going to put rostrata on each if I am able (filamentosa in tough since the damn moths get into it...)

The cactus is near an old O. aurea from California......it looks similar.....I can't say it's a hybrid.....I'll need to look at old photos to see if the bloom is the same. The mother aurea was given away a few years ago.
Great news that your filamentosa, glauca, and recurv 'big tenn' x filata #1 are going to put up blooms...........keep us posted on your rostrata hybrid attempts.

Ya, with luck they'll take... Fingers crossed.
I just finished weeding the cactus bed (getting to be more of a chore since I keep expanding the damn thing) and noticed that there are a lot of cactus 'weeds'. Originally I thought that these were limited to O. humifusa, but I also noticed weeds by the macrorhiza, phaeacantha, basilaris, aurea, and some hybrids. I also noticed that there is lichen growing all over my O. polyacantha 'Orange Glory' and on an E. rechenbachii. I am not impressed!

Hi Paul
What type of cactus hybrids did you create? Hybrids are cool.
