Uncovering my Trachys in February!

Post by wxman »

Came home from work early and decided to start dismantling the protection. I took off the foam and removed the west panel. Going to leave the other three panels up with the roof for another week or two. If some freak cold comes, I can quickly staple a layer of poly on the open side and throw in a heater for the night. But the forecast is all above freezing for the next 7 days with even a day forecasted in the 50s.

This is the earliest I opened up protection for my palms. It was only on this winter from Nov. 26 to Feb 28. LOL.

And of course, pics!

My biggest trachy, planted as a 3 gallon in July 2008.

About 29-30 inches of trunk on it.

Here is my newer trachy. Planted in June 2010 as a 15 gallon.

About 20-21 inches of trunk here.

We got a dusting, temp fell to 33.5, then it changed to rain and it's currently 49 out. Got over 1/2 inch of rain last night so I'm glad I left the tops on.
