Mid summer update.

Post by wxman »

Thought I would post a mid-summer update. Everything is growing well this year. Plenty warm finally after a cold spring.

Overall shot of yard. Loving this year (happy)

Christmas palm.

<img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/w ... 11f19a.jpg" border=0>

Perennial bed with caladiums thriving.

<img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/w ... e0412d.jpg" border=0>

Ensete maurelii, musa orinoco, croton and rhododendron.

<img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/w ... dac8bd.jpg" border=0>

Large ensete maurelii. Canna in the background.

Another large ensete maurelii. (happy)

<img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/w ... 32f62c.jpg" border=0>

Kalmia latifolia, ensete maurelii, ensete ventricosum, pennesetum fireworks, tiarella black snowflake and musa thai black.

<img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/w ... 104dd3.jpg" border=0>

Yucca color guard and my magnolia edith bogue. The magnolia is on its second flush of leaves right now.

Magnolia closeup.

My oldest trachy planted in 2008.

<img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/w ... 37597a.jpg" border=0>

The trachy I planted last summer. Cut all its leggy fronds off; everything is new growth this summer.

<img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/w ... 39eb07.jpg" border=0>

Trachycarpus wagnerianus and siam ruby that I overwintered.

The grass you see in my yard is a mixture of Penncross creeping bentgrass and A1 creeping bentgrass. Mowed every other day at 3/4" tall.

Thanks for looking!

How do YOU over winter your palms? And the Ensete's you just dig up and store in the basement?

Palms are overwintered in a poly box with foam insulation on the outside. Inside there is a space heater set at 35-40F. Bananas I did up and store in the basement.

I also like that Christmas Palm! :D

Bet your yard turns the head of every motorist who passes.
Everything looks sooooo good, well done, Tim.

Hey, did you know that Penncross creeping bentgrass and A1 creeping bentgrass are for golf greens?

What's left of your lawn would make a nice putting green if you sink a few "cups" ... would make a nice 5-hole putting green. :D

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

Thanks. Yeah I did, that's why I planted it. I love how thick it grows when mowed short.
