Seems April is often ka ka around here...
This time last year we had stage 3 water restrictions, i.e. no washing cars, windows, machinery, etc. etc. (and certainly NO lawns).

We have missed out on all the snow here but
an inch of hail(pea and dime sized) did much
more damage and stayed around a while too!

hot 'n dry here in Inhofe's backyard
It sure is hot here. Morning low of 73 F; high of 86 F. I'm going to head out now and water the fast-growing bananas and cannas.

Oh no, not you too, Aaron!
Two-for-one sale on longjohns at Wal Mart.
Ain't this GW grand?
GW--longer crappier winters than anyone can remember ever having since childhood, including areas that haven't seen it that cold in 50 years, hotter than the hubs of hell for 2 months (we'll affectionately call that "summer"), increased rainfall (normally a good thing in desert climes) where it rains so hard it washes away gravel landscape topping, making you really glad you didn't use barkmulch.

Weve been getting hit with random snow falls here over the last few weeks. It doesnt last more then a day, but still.... snow. Cant be to bad, my spinach is comming up.
Everything looks good Barb. If you could see MY filamentosa... It was ok untill we got a suprised downpour/wet snow over night, and it sat in soaking water for a week. Only par that looks good is the growth spear. Im probably going to move it..

Peony label was lost years ago, but it's not a tree peony Igor.
The deep-red flowers are huge (like a small dinner plate) but stems only grow about 2 feet tall.

OK... 'Cos my tree peony is going to bloom in a week I've made my guess. By the way a few days ago I saw plenty of wild peonies blooming on our hills. Had no chance for taking any pictures, sorry.

Your weather is certainly warmer than ours, Igor.
Wild peonies on hills?
That would be a wonderful sight to see
We have wild lupines on the hills here in May.
Might be August this year with our cold spring
Lovely purple look.

Shoshone Idaho weather

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Finally happening here too, Aaron.
At long last.
Happy growing, everyone!
Let's see those palms and cycads explode with growth!

Thank,s Erik... There is everything blooming as crazy here. Magnolias, forsitias, apricots, plums, peaches, pears are done. Apples and prunus cistena - almost done. Looking forward for tree peony, climbing hydrangea, climbing honeysuckles.
Even we've entered in May we would haven't been guaranteed of being blasted with a cold spell. Some years it would be happened until the May 20th. That's why I do not plant my bananas, palms and etc. into the ground. At least 10 days of waiting.

Gorgeous pics Igor, thank you.
Hope we catch up quickly after this horrible long winter...maybe we'll have spring now
Erik,
You've had such heat already.
Think you had summer, now spring is coming.

You, guys, the Northern Americans, have a long lasting fall. You know it's a kind of a super compensation. No worries, Barb!

Normally, yes, Igor.
But the last couple of years...Fall has been short, and the following Springs have been cold.
Makes people feel cheated of at least a month.
And the western coast of North America is cooling...darn it.
Mexico has had two very cold winters, and folks from Texas, Arizona and California have had a lot of cold damage two winters in a row.
(But then so has Florida...)

Well, April is over and we all whined a bit.
Turns out, April was actually unusually warm here.
Figure 1 shows average temps in OK; figure 2 shows deviation from normal.

Now I'm on to whining about May. Low was 39 F this morning, with 36 F forecast for tomorrow. Yes, I hauled in palms until my back got sore. Surely most any palm can take 36 F, right?
