The bay has frozen ( when you look at lake supirior, look at it as a wolfs head. Above the "eye" is a large triangle bay, that is Thunder Bay ( the bay not the city). That usualy freezes in colder winters becasue it isnt very deep. You can walk out for a good mile in most places. Right now it is frozen, but the lake itself isnt frozen as far as i know....
It is now -15C 10 - 20cm of snow in the forcast, and southerly winds to give us some squalls, and warmer temps!! ( -6C the forcasted high!!)
It was cold enough to crystalize hot tap water instantly ( I tried to get a video for you but it didnt work, The temps warmed up really quickly this morning as the snow started. I got a feelin thats the last of the super cold weather ( so far only a week with temps below -25C as a low, that is NOTHING here ** knocks on wood).

good thing you only got down to -31C! LOL For a minute I thought you might loose some of your palms outside. LOL
Boy...that's some cold. It always surprises me that Lake Superior does not freeze over. Check out the latest map of ice coverage...practically nothing.

Right now i dont have palms outside ( thanks god LOL). But i DO have bamboo, under 3 feet of leaves, wrapped in a tarp. A passiflora cerulea ( i think), thats under 3 feet of multch and plastic. Everything else is died down, or is buried inder the 2 feet of snow ( includingthe wrapped bamboo!!). I couldnt ask for better protection from the cold!)
My thermometer is on the north wall ( and there was literaly NO wind this morning), so presumibly everything is ok. It would be nice to know what I have in the ground that managed through it though!!! ( How many bamboo nuts are going to belive i had a fargesia scabrida over winter in -31C!!!)

Nope, but as i said, theres 2 feet of snow on the ground. Im sure the ground is frozen a bit, but we never got COLD before the snow fell. And we had a good foot of snow before the temps dropped below -25C. We got snow last week, then, the cold snap happened ( nothing really BAD) but we got a good foot of snow. So im sure the soil isnt as cold as one would expect..
