New Trachy and King palm

Post by Mark »

Couple palms I picked up over the weekend.

The one Trachy they had was loaded with Mealy bugs. Asked them if they would discount it from $20. I really wanted another one. Got it for $2. The King was $17. Spend several hours de-bugging and re-potting. Hopefully they'll do well. I lost my previous small king after spraying with insectisidal soap. It we really doing great till then. :x

Here's a couple pics. That makes 30 palms now. :D

They look nice!
Boy,that Trachy has some fat leaf segments on it! I wonder if it was grown in a shady location?

2 Bucks? SCORE!!!! Nothing a little dawn dish soap and water can't take care of. Nice pick up.

Bill,

Yep! Wiped all the leaves down with Alcohol removing some scale. mealy's and mold. Cut one leave off cause it was bad.

Mike ,

Got them at Jamaican gardens. ( thanks again for the source)

HardyJim,

It was in there green house I think it the brother of the Trachy I got a year ago March. They had 2 at that time and its the only time I saw Trachy's there. It is bit shady in there with all the other palms. Even the coconut they had where there when I got mine early spring and mine looks WAY better. Massive bug problem going on there now. Lots of the palms were infested.

Most of the time bugs are caused by low humidity! Keeping a peable tray under them full of water will help. misting helps too.
