I'am new here and was wondering if I will see any type of flowering from my Trachy Fortunei. It has just over 3 feet of trunk with about 8 heathly green leaves I just planted it this year in the ground I'am a zone 6B so protection is a must. I plan on making a wooden shelter with foam insulation inside, also i was planning on putting a 100watt light bulb for added heat.
If it does flower next spring what colour is male or female?
P.S. since planting it in the ground this spring I have fertilized it with palm tree fertilizer spikes also added Mycorrhizal fungi and epsom salts.
Flowers will appear without any pre-determined reason. Some palms flower at an early age, others much later.
Pictures will better illustrate the difference between male and female infloresence (flower clusters).
Male on the left in both pics shows the lighter pale yellow and the drooping characteristic. Pollen will be evident when touched or shaken.
Female on the right holds it's flowers in a more upright fashion and of course will not have pollen.
Barrie,
I have a smaller Trachy with just over 1 foot of trunk I know you said its possible to see flowering at any givin time, so should i keep my eye out for flowers on my smaller one.?
I know I have a better chance to see flowering on my 5 footer, but I thought I would ask the experts.
