This is an update image of the tall wagnerianus in Greater Victoria. The palm has done well since I first noticed it. It looks like it gets summer watering. It grows in a tight area but nothing that a Trachy can't handle.

I wonder how hot your temps got in your respective locations. I noticed Litton, BC on the news with 40 C absolute temp as a high. I've never heard of 40 C in southern Ontario other than a humidex value which is not absolute. John, I guess that Washingtonias are a better choice over Trachys because your dry, spectacular 35+ C sunshine is too much for a Trachy's good health. I got low 30's C and it damaged my variegated Fatsia and some rhodos. I noticed that wagnerianus does better in dry heat than fortunei (California). I've seen Trachys do okay in hot & humid conditions over in Asia but dry heat is not good.

Jay, I have read your article on cacti in the interior. I did assemble cacti and yuccas in the garden and moved them to an area with an overhang. I'm using Y. baccata & aloifolia. The Y. superba seems like the fastest growing and in full weather. I can't find a Y. rostrata with a trunk. I would plant this yucca with Trachys in full exposure to weather. I was talking to Jeff & we would like to see you return to Vic and plant a bunch of palms.

I'd tell you people to enjoy the sun but you have the hottest summers in the country.

Islander that is one nice looking Wagneranius. They grow so well on the island. W. filifera W.robusta are going great guns with the summer heat we we have. My house has seen two days of above 40.5c 105 f and the rest of summer is looking to be smokin hot and dry. I hope we see very few forest fires this year. The T. fortunei seedlings that I got from you are in the shade but still looking a little stressed from the heat. I`ll post some pics. Now if I could just get rid of the steady stream of company that wants to stay with us here I`d be happy.

Islander, that is one nice looking palm.
I particularly like the wider head versus Trachies.
Good to know they'll grow very quickly if they like their situation.

I've recently had to move the old Trachy out of full sun and onto the patio where it receives only morning sun.
Our high winds were breaking the fronds, and our blistering heat would soon have injured it.
Also with virtually no humidity to speak of...it needed shelter.
I can almost hear it SIGH now that it's back on the patio.

Re the heat, my clematis flowers have sunscald...what a shame.
Cooler today, thank goodness.
