SNOW?

I have never seen snow mid April or anytime in April for that matter but yet here it is three inches. The whole Pacific northwest was affected by this freak snowstorm. Here are some pics of snowy palms.

I was lucky and did not receive any but I am hearing others did in Nanaimo, Salt Spring Island, Victoria. I am not sure of other areas in Vancouver but no snow here.

This is starting to really suck this weather!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you keeping all of your palms out through this blast? They've been out since Feb. haven't they? What's the lowest temp. they've handled?

If it's any consolation, Calgary is looking at a high of -9 today! That's 22 degrees below normal (of course there is no such thing as "normal" here!). That's the equivalent of Las Vegas having a daytime high like ours in December or January. Brutal! I had to bring my Needle palm in...this thing is arctic man! I need a new hobby or a different zone!

Are they OK outside or are you hauling them back into the garage?

Duncan the lowest temp they have seen since being outside mid Feb is -4c 24f. Yes they have all been out with the pots frozen solid on all of them. I got a few burnt fronds on my junior W.robusta`s .W.filifera`s had slight burn. Trachy`s just laughed at -4c . All of my baby one gallons are still in the Palm garage along with my larger tropicals. This snow was a real shock here. Everywhere I went today people couldn`t believe it. Barb somebody ought to tell the big guy upstairs what month it is. Snow`s gone as of 2:00 and 6c 42f. Good ridens until Dec.

I awoke to a dump of snow 6" - 8"of the damned stuff on Saturday morning. There was thunder and lightening along with the snow which created a very bazzar experience. I've never seen such a combination and would have bet the farm it couldn't happen. Well we set new records if that's anything to be said.
I snapped this pic at about 5 am (April19) just before heading out to work. Most of it has since melted under sunny skies.

John, husband was in Kelowna on Saturday.
He said most areas seemed to get only a skiff of snow.

We got 4 inches at our place.

The -6 C was brutal...worried about the sprinkler system already charged, nothing we could do but keep our fingers crossed nothing will blow when we restart it (IF we get spring back).

Wes, seems that Nanaimo was really hard hit.

It is amazing that you got that much snow and we got nothing at all. Woke up to clear skies but cool temps, (2.6C)
Got up to 12C the last three days so not too bad and sunny skies too.

Temps have been comparable to yours Wes, but the system passing through on Saturday morning was unbelievable. With the warmer temps (still below seasonal) during the day, the snow is a memory now. Large heaps of it are piled up in parking lots and will likely be present for some time.
I'll never forget the near white out conditions coupled with thunder and lightening early that morning.
