Butia in zone 4
If you go to garden web forum under "palms", there is a thread started by "nwmstropics" titled "winter palm protection". It is right near the top of the page. There is a poster who has some great palms that are protected by styro foam boxes , including Butia in ZONE 4 (!). A great read read and good encouragement for us zone pushers.

In our area people have tried growing palms but things went wrong because we see way too many storm systems in our area. This year its been nothing but trouble and we had loads of freezing rain, snow close to 50 cm, ice pellets were also
a problem. Lake effect is a huge problem and we get snowfall rates up to 15 cm an hour.
We have a zone 5 but there is not enough sunny days to do it here but when we do get them, There is always a cold snap.
Thats pretty cool to see palms in zone 3 to 4 but 5 and 6 is more safer but they see less storms then here.
