Snow in California!

Post by Okanagan desert-palms »

Let me preface this by saying 8" of snow fell in and around Truckee Cal. 7000 ft elev and Lake Tahoe-Sierra Nevada mountains. My Uncle says this is the earliest snow and the most snow they have seen for this early in the fall since 1958 since he has lived near Truckee . We have also seen considerable snow in our area mountains. Here is a photo of the Pennask summit 5800 ft. The highest highway in Canada near Kelowna the Coqiuhalla Highway South central British Columbia I hope this is not a prelude to what we are to expect for the winter.

Unfortunatly I do think it's going to be a bad winter in the west. But what do I know?...I had a buddy who kept telling me every year "It's going to be a bad winter!". He was eventually right in '96 with the big snowfall after Christmas.
Cool/cold around my place today. Breezy, light drizzle and 9c (48f) at the high point of the day. This does suck after such a nice day yesterday.
CalTrans has a website at the Truckee weigh station.

Go to the "Tahoe area" (80 at Truckee Scales) for a live feed. Looked good when I checked ... 73f.

Cheers, Barrie.

Barrie thanks for that Caltrans live feed. I just checked it and it was 35 f at 8:55 pst. Winter is not what I want to talk about until Jan. That site is cool now I can phone my Uncle and tell him what he already knows about the weather.
