Ok - we have trouble, BIG TROUBLE here ...... you see, my wife loves this little thing, however, it is growing some crazy leaves (nothing like the original ones) and it looks pretty bad. I have attached some photos, with the hope someone can help me with this. I would like to simply cut these new fronds off, but I am unsure that is the right thing to do? .... and then I have the problem of getting this plant to grow right.
Please have a look and let me know how I can save this thing ....... thanks.
They are stretched a bit from lower light levels, at this point if you move it into a brighter area it would help ( but not into direct sunlight as it would probably burn the leaves )
A Sagos leaf shape and size will always be dependant on the light levels when it flushes. I would leave it as be for now,( the leaves are still providing energy for the plant ), then move it into more sun when the next flush starts.
Just kinda re stating what KNNN told you, those leafs are basically stretching to try to find more light.
Move it to a different spot today, one with more light and in a week those leafs will be a little greener, but the for and shape will not change. After a couple weeks in the new brighter spot, then take it outside and water it a lot to keep up with the heat. Then in Late August, throw some fert on it and water in well. You might see a new flush in Mid Sept. If you want, at that time (after the new flush is done) you can cut off those leafs that you are talking about.
But most importantly, next time you see a flush start, make sure it is in bright sun light.
