T. fortunei gets first deep frost

My 2 bigger T. fortunei's have got their first heavy frost. Overnight temp was -3C. My largest musa got it too so I assume it's done now. I guess we will see if the roomers about the T.F are true. Hope this frost doesn't hurt them, time will tell.

Trust me your trachys are laughing at the other plants. They look good. In my yard there one of the few things that stays green when everything is dead.

Easy for you to say..lol. U have the nicest/biggest palms East of Washington State!!

But ya, I hope they are fine...I see SNOW in the 2 week forcast so I will have to be getting the protection up soon.

They are doing good. Can you believe the heats damaged them more then cold this year. Also the lack of rain has slowed there growth. I slacked off and didnt water them like I should and a few of the lower leaves turned brown. This year was another learning lesson and next year the irrigation stays on lol!!

Your palms look great, and are in better over all condition then mine are!!

I watered mine constantly this summer, but you are very right about the heat. My non-cold hardys loved it but my T.F's didn't. If you get a sec, go to photo gallery and check out my trip to Mexico. Lots of palms. Pretty cool.

It helps my feelings to hear that someone besides me thought less watering might be good. I cut back from 3-a-week to once and then put the icing on the cake by removing the mulch that had been in place since planting day back in April. As a result, my Trachy went south (no pun intended) within a few weeks... first browning the lower fronds and then the entire crown began to yellow rapidly. Temperatures near 100F and the extended drought didn't help matters. Thankfully, it now appears to have started recovering with two nice green spears pushing up from the center. Rest assured that I won't have to suffer through that beginner's mistake again. High water bills, maybe, but no drying out.
