A Call out for Tropicman
I was wanting Tropicman to take a pic of his "Yellow Grove Bamboo". I saw this live and in person and for this to be happening in a Zone 5 is AMAZING.
A jungle of it so thick you can't walk thru it.
PIC PLEASE!!!!! Show that off!

That's a fine stand of bamboo Tropicman!
Here's some you might like ... it's Phyllostachys vivax (Chinese Timber Bamboo) and the newest culms are about 30' tall and are about to leaf out (center of the stand). This is likely to max out at about 45' - 50' in the coming years.
Cheers, Barrie.

Yes ... the beer was tasty!

Tropicman ... we do get the odd wet snow fall and it's wet cement, so yes, the perimeter culms do lay over during such episodes. Rain is enough in most situations to bend the culms downward temporarily. Not "Moso" bamboo - it's Chinese timber.
Kansas ... "Zone 5, UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
No ... I'm not in zone 5 if that's the meaning of your comment. I'm in zone 8 (for all that's worth)
I thought I'd pass through the garden and snap a few more bamboo pics from my garden which highlight the detail of the culms (canes).
Phyllostaychys bambusoides 'Castillon'

Phyllostachys nigra 'Bory'

Semiarundinaria fastuosa 'Viridis'

Phyllostachys nigra

Phyllostachys vivax 'Aureocaulis'

Phyllostachys aurea 'Holochrysa'

Phyllostachys nigra 'Megurochiku'

Yushania maculata

Phyllostachys aurea

Cheers, Barrie.[/list]
