Hurricanes & palms

I'm on my favorite little Caribbean island right now. They got hit hard by hurricane Earl even though the eye passed south of them. The whole village sounds of hammers as people rebuild.

Of relevance to us is how well palms fared, vs other trees. Coconuts in particular but I have yet to see a single palm killed or uprooted. Oh and don't forget the storm surge that let ~0.5 to 1 meter of salt water on them. Again, coconuts were fine, but other palms as well.

Lots of non-palm trees knocked over, killed or at best defoliated. (Actually, some lookk fine, to be fair).

Back in Oklahoma as of yesterday.

Cycads also did fine. Tree ferns, alas, did not survive the salty storm surge. Note to Jim.
