QUESTION FOR THE AMERICAN MEMBERS
Hey everyone,
I live in Southern Ontario. Kinda near Buffalo. Anyway, I was wondering of anyone could tell me a good place to find some large T. Fortunei or Washingtonia or similar (6 foot trunks or better) south of the border. Also, does anyone at all know what kinda complications there are to bringing some large palms into Canada?
Thanks for the help.
(p.s sunny and 27c here...FINALLY)

Might be worth a call to see if a 6' Palm could still be considered a "houseplant"

arctic palms
I've brought back a dozen or so palms and hardies from s/carolina over the past 8-10 yrs (2-4 at a time)..
Last fall I grabbed 4 trachy's $10 each//3 footers...
As long as its a houseplant and is not native to Canada you should have no probelms..
S/Carolina has a good selection..Along coastal route 17 highway south of Myrtle there are sales of palms along the road from folks from Florida...True Blue Nursery outside Pawleys Island is another nursery stocked well with everthing...You can find all kinds of things....

No kidding....I paid $160 for my trachy here in St. kItts. I want to get one with about a 6-8 foot trunk. I guess people around here have just been growing them long enough to have any that big. I am very very tempted to take a raod trip down to the Carlolinas. My wife would kill me,
....thanks for the info.!!

That would cost you about $400 - $500 here at the nursery & don't think they would consider that a house plant. You could always ask customs when you come through. S. Palmettos you can get $125 - $175 for any size but will not handle your cold. They also weigh a ton...Arctic Palm wrote:I want to get one with about a 6-8 foot trunk.

The money is not a issue. It's getting them. If I were to try and get a 6-8 foot T. Fortunei across the border I would just tell them I have a large home (or something). There are several businesses and bars around here with huge palms they put outside in summer for the patios and stuff. I am talking 30' royals in Windmills. So there must be a way to do it.

Artic
Give these guys a call. They are in Virginia Beach, Virginia. It would save you quite a few hours drive. I have not bought anything from them yet, but I am planning a trip down there this summer.
