new palms for 2013
I figured I would start an unofficial new palms thread for this year. anything we get new in the mail, on vacation, seeds germing post it in here. will be nice to go back in december and see what everyone got all year. posted some of mine some place else already but this one came in the mail today. 1G Waggie palm from steve. looks very nice and was packed well although USPS was a bit ruff with it. repotted into a 2 gallon and hope it puts on alot of growth here this summer. possibly into the ground next year.

nice Mike.....I may plant out a waggie this year too.

Steve sure grows good quality palms, Mike.
Gorgeous waggie.
Great looking CIDP, Chad.
I'm beginning to think Phoenix species are bullet proof in summer; they can handle tons of heat and tons of rain, or none.
Mine NEVER have scale, even my old one, although scale infested palms are near them, and more ants crawling around depositing more scale nymphs.
They can take blistering sun from day one out of the cold building with no burn.
My young Deglet Noor and Medjools can go dry as a bone, bake in the sun in black plastic pots.
I finally remember to water them and they throw a leaf.

None of my Phoenix -- the old one in a garbage bucket, or the new 2 year old ones -- were affected by being in the cold, barely-heated building all winter.
Next to several south windows, minimum 5C temps (regularly).
Temps never got above 10C the entire winter in that building.
Watered once lightly in 4 or 5 months.
Sure easier than what I go through with the other stuff.
But it's their "no scale" that impresses me the most.
My seedling Waggies have some scale, which really ticks me off as they weren't anywhere near other palms that were infested.
