Just thought that those of you still getting blasted by winter would be glad to know that spring is on its way.

First inflo is always a good sign.

Weeping Cherry and Willow are beginning to celebrate.

well you got it a bit better than me but not by alot! all the trees are in flower, have been since our warm spell started. The hostas are comming up and it is finally spring here...and then we got cold. last night was around 35 and tonight the same is expected. next week highs of the 80s again. this is a strange spring for sure.

Igor, thanks I love my weeping trees but I believe that may get transplanted this winter. It is gonna get so big and block the view of my rock garden. Can these cherry trees be hard pruned when larger to keep it dwarfted?

Barb, I finally just planted mt Princeps and Takil. Now I hope I dont regret not waiting till they where larger. My wife loves the chammy, says its the best palm I have. I have to disagree, lets see how long my Bismarkia will live in ground

Mike, glad your getting some good weather over there too. Its nice to see all the hosta poke through. A now the fern fronds are unfurling

I did find some fern unfurling chad..and I went and bought a huge tree fern from lowes

. I meant to ask where you got the princep it is a really nice size. and looks very healthy if I'm going to have to shell out the money Id like to get a nice healthy one like yours.

dont regret not waiting till they where larger.

They're a good size, and will settle in nicely this summer.
Then there are those of us who plant them when they're 6 inches tall.

W probably likes the blue colored palms, as do I.
They're such a stunning accent in the garden.

I def know spring is here I just picked up a butia and a silver euro fan palm at walmart and there always last to get stuff in..they had saw palmettos and large needles as well but I'll wait till they get marked down for all that.

Nice haul, I have been looking for another silver med. Our local big box stores havent been getting anything good. I did just order a hesper palm today.

none of the box stores here have anything either which is why I was suprised. I happened to find last years needle pot and it was marked 50% off on may 10th so I know when to go back and grab the others lol. honestly all were nice size and in good shape. the needles were HUGE compared to what I got last year. I hope none of them sell and I get the whole lot

most people will kill them anyways might as well come to my yard and live awhile.

only problem is the tags said they were grown in florida so I doubt there cold hardiness for awhile

This past weekend all of the trees leafed out. Its really starting look nice around again.

Im going to give the box stores another week and see what they get in. They will have these fore sure but I'm looking for that one store manager who orders somthing strange to see how it sells..a bottle palm or a alexander somthing not normal for this zone. they other stuff is usually easy enough to find.

Thanks Tim, those things are growing like crazy too. Got home the next day and they had grown 3" over night. Even my musella lasiocarpa is starting to pic up speed. Just hoping now that my Siam Ruby takes off. I just replanted it on Sun.

I hope your Siam does better than mine..I had a 3ft trunk and it died over winter..puped out 4 and they died off..pupped out 4 more and were going strong..took it outside on warm day now every leaf is drooping and turning yellow don't know if it will even make it to plant out. I left my musella out all winter with a bag of straw over it. rotted the top 6 inchs. cut them back and I have a new roller pushing. those nanas can take some cold.

Mike, looks like my Siam is putting out a new leaf. my musella pupped like crazy last yr and i managed to root some. That has to be my favorite. looks like my musa veluntina rotted. It got transplanted late in the season. But I have extras of that one too.

How long does it take to get a palm tree to flower? Just out of curiosity.

need to get me a veluntina. I have some seeds but they never did pop. Have a small dwarf red and a dwarf orinoco begging to go outside right now.. nanas palms and elephant ears make up a good chunk of the garden fill in plants.

IPN, I bought my minors as 3 gallon blue pots. And two yrs later they bloomed. Last yr they had 3 inflos each. My trachy nanus, and princeps came from ebay. My Takil and waggie came from PDN.

Mike you really need to get you musa velutina. For me they stay around 8' but bloom every year. And I got me a hesper palm today

Igor, that agave I believe is A. potatorum. I really need to post a photo on another forum for id. But according to my agave books Im pretty certain. In about a month it will have a full rosette. most leaves hav e dropped due to poor light.

There are several variations. If I had my laptop I would post an old photo from last summer. Its not that potatorum has a definite shape. Because the illustrations in the Irish book are all different than in Gregs. But Ill post a photo for Greg and a few others to look at. Because I would like to now for sure.

that hesper is awesome..don't think it would do well for me here since I like things to go in the ground and stay...Its a must ai order a veluntina I need some neon pink bananas in my yard.

Actually it is so funny finding some unusual North American plants in the country that is so far away from there. There are not so many agave/yucca plants fans here. Many people like collecting cacti or some african succulents but yuccas... agaves... Noup!

Its kinda the same here on the east coast. In NC the biggest collector I know is Tony Avent of Plant Delights nursery. He may have more agaves than me. Most ppl on xeric world are from much warmer and dryer locations. I average about 45" of rain here which makes most succulents to tender for planting.

I went back to the greenhouse that "babysits" rich peoples plants and took some pics of MONSTER agaves 6 ft across..will load em up tomm. my friend also gave me a little agave when I left I may need an ID on it if possible
