Man oh man, what do you guys use for yucca soil???
I must've goofed by using my palm soil.
And I didn't water much ... heck, they're yuccas.
Barb
For starting yuccas I have only had good luck with soil from outside or waste gravel/soil from work projects. The filata seed all sprouted in the dirt from work and the big mama seed very few sprouted from the soil in my yard. I never have luck with soil from a bag.
I think it was Nov. or Dec. when I started that seed? It was cold out.

wow, nice job Aaron! You'll have to get them into the ground now and water them throughout the summer. PS, if you want more big mama seed let me know.......still got 1,000 seed.
It will be interesting to see the variation between seedlings......keep us updated. I never germinated any of my big mama seed yet.

None, I think mine grew faster because I placed the windows in my house directly to the south for solar gain. Also I live in a desert, so more sun through the windows in winter?
This is my best guess?

Yuccas LOVE sun, sun, sun, sun...........they love well draining soil with loads of moisture and root tip growth (get into the ground).
Yuccas hate water logged soil......pour water on top of the soil and it should drain very fast.......if water ponds on top of the soil for more than seconds and/or if water sits in the root area you'll have problems.
I almost never water yuccas in the ground. I might try that with my sandy soils, if you guys say they gonna grow faster. I'm not planning on watering Y. baccata, tho.
if you have a good, sunny location then your containerized Yucca seedlings will be fine in winter......I don't have a nice, sunny location; therefore, my seedlings do worse inside my garage than they do outside. The only species of seedlings I don't keep outside would be the 'tender' species like rostrata, treculeana, aloifolia, schottii, etc...
Marceli, a winter cover has made a very nice job. It works in spite of COLD and snow! Unlikely I would be able planting my yuccas into the ground. They will have been keeping in my unheated GH.

My yuccas or Barb's? Mine are fine. I really don't know if I should plant some of one year old specimen or wait until next year when they'll be bigger. Don't wanna lose'em.
I don't know but my Y.nana one year old seedlings have a bluish color and some off-springs which is a very common for this species. By the way Aaron is an expert on Y.nana and he will comment your query for sure.
