Tim, amazing! Love this 'Big Tennessee form' too. Good luck with pollination or it's too late?

That gloriosa x elata is awesome.
Actually, those are all awesome plants! Interesting that the 'Big Tenn x filata' bloomed in the spring here...

Hi Mckatelyn,
yes the Y. gloriosa x elata is a nice hybrid. I was hoping the bloom would be very tall like elata but the gloriosa genes dominated and the hybrid got the short bloom which emerges in fall. The leaves are nice and narrow-ish. I'm not sure what the roots look like on this hybrid yet. If the roots are gloriosa type, then collecting roots will be super easy. If the roots are elata type then root collection is difficult. I'm curious if this hybrid will trunk or just form offshoots.......perhaps both.

Hi Igor,
we had a hard freeze last week and the Yucca flowers which were opening were all heavily damaged. It's too late in the season to get seed pods.....too bad. I wish they would bloom a little earlier.
Hi Paul,
the Y. gloriosa 'Big Tennessee' has bloomed 3 times in the fall and 1 time in spring. It blooms too much! I like the look of Yuccas when they don't bloom and grow tall with a nice head of leaves. Big Tennessee will now look poor next season. The hybrid with filata is not with Y. gloriosa 'Big Tennessee', it's with Y. recurvifolia 'Tennessee form'. I really think it's a flaccida and not a recurvifolia but when Rob of Tenn sent it to me he referred to it as a Y. recurvifolia. The Y. recurv 'Tenn form' is a great Yucca since it's bloom are the most massive in my garden. Seed pods are erect and form narrow seed and it always blooms in late spring.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
