My trachy is sitting outside today. Its at 9C right now off weather network yet it says 13c on some other sites. Its supposed to be very warm for the next 14 days. The lowest high won't be too much cooler then freezing.
Colder on the south BC coast!!! I'm only at 8 celcius (46f) with fog, high humidity and dead calm. Feels like winter! I never look at long term forecasts only 3 or 4 days. Accuracy becomes poor after that point. How do you manage to winter your Trachycarpus up there?
That's amazing to have such wide swings in temperature. It must be difficult for plants to adjust or certainly reduce the number of choices you can use in landscapes.
It was temperature swings like that 2 winters ago that killed several of my explorer roses. We had almost no snow and the roses, that are Zone 2 hardy, couldn't survive the freeze and thaw cycle. But the holly survived unprotected despite the temps reaching -32 C . It didn't even die back to the ground like the Belamcanda chinensis.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps
