What a big differnce heat can make. Some of these plants have done what would normally be a years worth of growth in less than 3 months after moving them from a cool coastal climate to the central valley of California around 38.5 degrees North. I left some of the Sago palms Cycas revoluta here to overwinter including 1 leaf seedings and they took 24 degrees F np with a bit of canapy and many nights below freezing and without water for a month as we did not get any rain when I was away. All of the other plants I moved here around April 1st.

Now for a few plams. I did not take many up here as they would not do well except for the heat loving ones.
Back to Front Left to Right. Butia, Dypsis decipiens, Bismarkia, and another D. decipiens. The D. decipens were soposed to be hardy but suffeded up to 50% foliage damage for a couple of nights only down to 30F.

Here is a Jubaea i brought with me. It really seems to like the heat surprisingly but it usually dips below 60F at night.
And a Dracaena draco. It has nearly doubled in size in less than 3 months. It is starting it's third year.

You're in plant heaven now that you've moved, Jubaea.
Incredible growth on the C.revoluta in 8 years.
Your heat-loving plants will do soooooo well.
Glad you're settled in.
Thanks for the update.

It is soposed to be warmer on Saturday. I'm not use to it being this hot. I'm use to 60's this time of year.TimMAz6 wrote:interesting...........I see your reading 97F..........we don't see those numbers in coastal Massachusetts!

Moving for better climate
Nice! You should get some great summer growth. What zone are you in now, for winter cold? 9?
I'm driving to Oregon next week and plan to move plants that want less heat than they have here in OK. Cycas will probably go if they will fit (about the same size as yours) plus Trachy that will fit. Maybe CIDP.
Yucca etc. are staying here, of course!

Oregon sounds really nice right now. I hope you can trasport all your plants safely from OK to OR. I think it is soposed to be 9b here in Davis, but last winter it got down to 24 on my thermometer under cover right next to the house, and some areas nearby experienced temps in the upper teens. W. robosta looked pretty beat up and some Queens suffered some damage. Some of both had 50% foliage leaf burn/die back or more.
I will be heading back to the Coast for the summer as I don't like the heat and my plants will come back with me. I'll post some pictures of the other plants that could not take the cold/heat here that I left behind when I get a chance.

Very cool, love sagos. My older one just flushed out 14 new fronds. They are cool!
