Palms in spring, is this a deasese??

I planted these palms last summer, after opening up the protection from the winter I noticed that the ends of most of the fronds had dried out. I cut off all of the dried out parts (as you can see).

I am wondering if they have a fungus, or is it lack of fertilization (we didnt fertilize till this spring)

I am still getting good growth from the centre of the palm but all of the fronds are coing out with brown spots on them

Can anyone shed some light??

Looks like the leaves were touching the plastic/cover. It was probably too wet inside and it got some fungus and/or mould ( cant spell"fungus" without "Fun"

) Ive never had to deal with that myself though

In What part of Ontario do you reside?
Maybe it was protected for too long? Mine have been uncovered for nearly two months.
What protection measures did you have in place? Maybe some pictures of how you protected?

I live in st. Catharines. I had them protected untill early march. We had them tied up and wrapped in white cloth winter protection we got from rice road gardens. It seems as though the dried out over the winter. I didnt take any pics of them in he winter...sorry

Gonna say they got too dry. Hope they come back to health soon.
Are they in pots, in the ground?

In the ground. I wqs told to never put them in pots unless you want to bring them inside.

They are still getting good growth so i hope them green up soon too

I'm guessing that was cold and fungus damage...did you use any C-7 Christmas lights around the trunk inside/outside the cloth cover?

To me at least, that looks to be mostly cold damage (since it's mostly on the outer edges of the fronds, which were likely touching the sides of the protection).

no we didnt have any lights on the trees this winter. I recently purchased two small green houses that we will use to winterize them for the winter this year. hopefully they work better. thanks for all the info guys.

Im gonna do a soil test tomorrow to see if there is anything going on with that.

Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks for all the info on my palms. Just wanted to keep you posted and tell you that they are growing up nicely. very green. no signs of damage to the new fronds. I will post pics of my before and after backyard in a little bit.

Yeah, new leaves shouldn't have that damage.
My two planted Washies had cold damage too, but new leaves are clean and green.
Good reason to cut off the damaged fronds...
