Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Chives have awesome blooms.
I don't cut off southwest Yucca leaves unless I have too........it appears the old leaves improve hardiness.......I like the look too.

Yes I've read that the "skirt blanket" provides winter protection.
I found a black widow spider in the big yucca rostrata I bought (RIP...the y.rostrata).
Seems the skirts are great hiding places for creepy crawlies.

I agree that gloves should be worn when looking inside the dead leaves since it's a great place for spiders.
Leave the cactus seeds in your garden and many will sprout the next season!
I would imagine the Y. Fila x rostrata will be z5 hardy in dry areas and z6b hardy in wet areas? Only time will tell.

Sorry Igor, there was nothing to photograph after I got through with it...just a smear on the pavement.
You wouldn't like black widows if there was one under every rock or plant pot in your yard
Their numbers seem to be increasing here, despite my best efforts.

I like that you have Echinocereus rechenbachii 'weeds' coming up. I have a tough enough time growing them here when I plant them!
The fila x rostrata is interesting. With a large number of f2 progeny there could be some great plants there!

Funny thing that these Echinocereus weeds appear hardier than the large plants I originally ordered..........which seemed to slowly die off over time.

Same here, only with the Mexican Feather Grass.rechenbachii 'weeds' coming up
I've found little ones growing in the cracks of concrete, where they OVERWINTERED!!!! AND THEY'RE GREEN!!
Yet little ones that I dug out carefully last fall and cared for all winter inside have ALL died.
Go figure.

Oh, Barb, I wish to plant the Mexican Feather Grass but not sure 'cos mine died being in a pot in 0 - minus 5 C storage conditions. Don't you mind posting a pic of your mature grass?

Tim, I'm judging by the chive pic that you are around a week to a week and a half ahead of me. The chives at my place have flower buds, but none have bloomed yet!

Hi Cameron,
I always see your temps are cooler than mine.....I'm surprised your only a 1 or so behind me. Has the snow melted from your yard yet?

Huh? Really, Cameron????
You want to talk about cold...near zero last night here, tonight too.
Huge windstorm last night from the NW.
BRRRRRRR.
What didn't blow away or croak last night may just do so today.

I bet Barb will be complaining about it being too hot in a couple weeks
Barb's cold now but the temps will be ramping up soon in BC while Cameron will be happy to hit 80F this summer!
Being next to a cold ocean stinks for growing subtropicals.
