I'm in hawaii - what palm is this?

Post by wheelman1976 »

I'm here in hawaii on my honeymoon and we went on a road trip today, and we came across some specimens we didn't know. Can anyone tell me what type of palm this is? Also, is the yellow thing in the first pic a huge seed? I was tempted to rip the thing off but didn't, but it'd be nice to know for future ones we run into.

We also came across this one which my beautiful wife graciously posed with and we managed to find some seeds on the ground as well as some other bigger berries that I'm assuming seeds are inside of. What is this type?

The first is Cocos nucifera, the coconut palm.

2nd one is Hyophorbe lagenicaulis, the bottle palm.

Glad you've got your priorities straight...still looking at palms even on your honeymoon!

Wishing you both a lifetime of palm gazing!
