Hello from Jersey City, NJ (NYC basically)
Really am glad I found this place. Hopefully, it keeps growing. I didn't see anything on the forums so I thought I might suggest a forum for "stores selling palms" or something like that. It'd be nice to know if someone with a keen eye happened to be at a Home Depot or Lowes, or any other store and happened to find Trachy's being sold. These stores usually sell palms in the spring/summer, but they are all very tropical and not cold hardy. I know these places do sell them from time to time, so it'd be great to see who's selling what, and in what location.

Hi skutch,
We often discuss what we've found and at what price in our general topic postings.
In my opinion, since members are in such diverse geographical regions, encompassing virtually half of North America, with several European members too, perhaps it's best to leave as is.
And we've found that Home Depot, and many others, for example, have different prices in different areas.
For example, we Canadians are already jealous enough of the great deals you Americans find...
but we love to read about it and see photos.
Often, there'll be a post like "look at the Butia I bought today", etc.
Think that'll do?
Cheers!
Barb

Welcome to the forum, there are a couple of others from the NJ area here. You should check out the large T. fortunei that are planted in Palmyra.
You can occasionally have luck with the Blue Pot palms at Lowes/HD/Wal-Mart etc. Overall, they're not as hardy as they should be. However, when they go on sale at the end of the season, buy a bunch, and keep the hardiest survivors. Also, many people have started to discover that what were being sold as B. capitata are actually Butia x Jubaea crosses, which are very lucky finds!

welcome aboard! I've seen needle palms, Trachies and Butia palms for sale at my local Walmart here in Massachusetts. It's not common but I've seen them offered in blue pots.
