Shopping for palms etc in Dallas [video]
We spent the weekend in Dallas. The highlight for me was the Dallas Farmers Market, famous as a source for (reasonably) cold-hardy palms.
Not a huge variety, but they had many for sale of the staples for zone 8: Dwarf palmetto, needle palm, jelly palm, windmill palm, med. fan palm, Washy and palmetto. What astonished me was the size available!
My son took video clips of me and assembled them into a video for YouTube. He thought my narration tedious so he covered it with a song. About 2' long.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Oh, wow!
What were the prices Erik?
I would've liked the narrative, tedious or not.

The paired Butia were US$250.
The Trachy as tall as the skyscrapers were US$799.95 each:

This was the place with the biggest of palms:
They had gigantic Sabal palmetto and Washy. Not sure what kind (see my comment above). I didn't ask the price and regret that.
The other palm vendor I went to, with the $800 Trachy, had big palmettos for $600 and $800. So I assume these are north of that!
As for Michigan, I really think you should get the big Trachy. It'll need protection, but you have 15+ oF margin of safety over Washy.

I should be able to get a palmetto go through the winter here with protection shouldn't i?
As for getting anything, I'm in a big holding pattern until after I get married in April.... The fiance has put me on notice that if I can spend money on a palm right now then I can spend more on the wedding.... I don't see the logic there but I'm putting up with it for the sake of peace.... I'm hoping she'll simmer down after she gets back from our Hawaiian honeymoon.

Yes, keeping W happy is very, very important.
For the wedding, rent a potted palm for the reception and make sure the photographer gets a photo of you two in front of it.
(Devious, aren't I?)
Snapshots under Cocos in Hawai'i are a must.
Then, palms become a romantic symbol for you two....
As for me, my "trick" was to call Chamearops humilis the "Andalusian Palm" as W stands an Andalusian Stallion. I said she needed a pair of trunked Chammies (er, Andalusian palms) in pots by her stall at big horse shows.
I think the video my son took caught me making the sales pitch by this one:
