Washingtonia Filibusta

Post by Cali-wanna-b »

Hi all

I am looking for some feed back on the hardiness of Washingtonia Filibusta. I have read that they may be more hardy than their parents. Anyone here have any experience with Washingtonia Filibusta?

The hardiest of the washies in my opinoin is the filifera. The filabusta damages before a real filifera does and I think that the mix makes it less hardy. Some people say they have a true filifera but really have a filabusta. I actually got a chance to see all three growing closely and the robusta burns fast and the filabusta started after the robusta and very lastly the filifera started to damage.

I will planting one out this spring. I will protect the heck out of it due to it's small size. This palm I will have to protect every winter. It does not like the wet mild winters we get here. I will probably cut off all of it's fronds except for the new emerging ones and wrap it in burlap and and put an overhead cover on it. On really cold nights for here I will add a comforter and wrap it in that. I love these palms and I hope I can keep it alive for many years.

Wes, I too plan on planting a VERY young Filibusta. And a Filifera, to go along with my Robusta already in the ground. Hopefully, If I can keep a Robusta, I can keep a Filifera or Busta going in the ground.
However, I DO very much need your advice and opinions and findings posted on here as we can all use ideas.
Keep us updated.
