Just got back from collecting more S. Minor seed. This stand is next to the banks of the upper Ashley River.

Nice Brahea Barrie. I wish they would sell some here. I have never seen a Brahea for sale in any of our local nurseries. They would do great in our environment

Very nice pics Laaz, thanks for sharing with the group. It looks like the SM are growing in shade throughout the summer and part sun and part shade in winter and thrive.

Hey Ryan. Yes S. Minor's natural habitat is as a under story plant. In their natural habitat they grow large leaves & long stems to compensate for the low light conditions. When planted out in direct sun they do very well, but grow shorter stems & smaller leaves (Fronds). They also seem to get a deeper almost Blue coloration when grown in direct sun.

Laaz great photos of natural habitat for those S. minors. Are there any needle palms growing wild in your area?

John yes there are some wild needles, but the only ones I know of are on private property.
