Looking great Jim! It still astounds me how well the trunk cut trachies recovered. It's just sick that some A-hole would steal one of your plants. I bet you have plenty of jealous neighbors though...
I put up my trachy enclosure but I will not be plugging it in for probably at least a couple weeks. I wanted to be ready so I don't get caught with my pants down since I'll be out of town for a while. It was 64 on Saturday so I thought it was a perfect day to finish the yard work! Even though the long-range forecast looks decent I know it can change quick in MN. Last year we had a foot of snow already by this time, though it didn't seem to bother my trachies. Just was not much fun putting up their enclosure in it though.

Fantastic shots as usual, Jim! Your trunk cut fortunei is a prime example of just how vigorous some hardy palms can be!
As far as the Tetrapanax go, I would consider myself lucky to even have a specimen, let alone "volunteer" plants popping up everywhere!

Post office told me "no, you cannot ship live plants to the US without a phytosanitary certificate".What's stopping ya? Ship 'em bareroot wrapped in moist paper towels, then newspaper. We have mailed back and forth numerous times. Just not banned plants.
Contents have to be declared (truthfully...but I suppose we could lie through our teeth and declare contents are a "pamphlet" or something.
Same with orders coming from U.S. nurseries, they won't do it, unless you sign that there's no responsibility to the nursery if the plants are confiscated at the border.
As though palm seedlings would affect Canada's vast and lucrative palm plantations

GREAT! Thanks, Jim!I believe it was a quite hard season to keep your plants watered properly. Of course they had to reward you for the endless watering...

Thanks Tim
I am going to try and give it a little more shelter this year,if I don't get to lazy...
John
I think it was bigger!
The leaves were more stretched out from nursery greenhouse growth.
It has taken a few years to get established, speeded up a little this year.
Picture is from 12-23-08.
I guess the trunk has gotten bigger....

It has proven very tough as it has had all kinds of stupid stuff
thrown over it and managed to just stay warm enough the first few years.
I am taking better care of it now

Re Abyssinian...do you rely solely on rainfall for watering?
You did say it barely rained at all but I thought you supplemented with hand watering/sprinkler?
That cactus bed's plants are maturing so nicely, look at that agave!
very nice.
Love the Washies.
They'll need more than a fence next winter, Jim.
Thanks for the pics.
