We all love Trachy.
But let us share a little love for the other cold-hardy palms. Like the Mediterranean Fan Palm.
What is not to love? They are native to Europe, at a higher latitude than any palm I know of. Heck, I bet I live south of the median of their range!

So, they do not mind a long, dark winter. And yet I for one can attest to their fondness for endless days of >40 C heat, wind, and little water. Plus they are cheap. Mine was about US$10 at the local Home Depot five years ago in a one gallon pot. It tolerated my neglect and abuse and just keeps growing.
Here it is today. It is weedy, as it is now on an abandoned farm ("Terdal Farm") and so gets no fertilizer (not that it ever really got much), no watering, no insect spray, no weeding (hence the weeds) but it is growing fast.
