That's a nice mild winter Jordan. My location in Kingston has never had a winter warmer than USDA 7a; Toronto had one year with a low of something like -14C... But that was the non winter of 2002 (or was it 2001?). This winter we hit -17.5C (0f) downtown and -20C (-5f) at the airport.
My place in Kingston hit both -27C (-16f) and -30C (-22f) this past winter. Coldest winter in a few years.

and I don't believe any days below 0(F).
Quite a change from the past few winters!

Paul, there was a winter 2001-2002 when I moved to Toronto. My first job was a landscaping there. I remember the guys were saying about that winter like "it was a joke"! By the way my lowest was minus 23 (C) but the mean January was minus 12C. It's kind of crazy 'cos the average January is minus 5-6 C normally.Paul Ont wrote: But that was the non winter of 2002 (or was it 2001?).

It was fairly cold here this winter, but what scared me more than the absolute low of -17.2 C (1 F) was the number of times there were temps of -15 C (at least 10), and -12 C (at least 25). The one good side is that my thermometer is on my deck, so temps in the sheltered area of the yard would have been a bit warmer.

-37C at the airport, but -32C in my yard...

-30 C
-12 F at he Tulsa airport Feb. 10; -13 F at the Tulsa Jones airport in south Tulsa (where NWS gets Bixby data); -22 F (-30 C) at the state weather station in Bixby, although that is several miles closer to Tulsa and so gets some of the urban heat island effect. My electronic thermometer read "LL" that morning but worked later when it warmed up. Too cold for a thermometer?!?
Needless to say, massive devastation. Photinia and some Phyllostachys (as examples) in Tulsa are going to make it but both genera out around here are dead. Southern Magnolia and boxwood are the BLE champs, as is anything that was under the snow.
That snow (record amounts) kept the soil warm. We had a very warm January (remember that photo of W and I dozing in tank tops and shorts the last Saturday of January?) which meant the soil did not freeze deeply. Thus, I now have Canna and Musa popping up through thick mulch among very sad looking "palms."
The rapid warm-up (100 F in a week) may have helped, too. So, it can't really compare to Paul and Jesse's winter

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Mike, on this wunderground link (I've selected Dover New Jersey, but that's not your city, so change that)...down the page on the left side, there's a History and Almanac section.
http://www.wunderground.com/US/NJ/Dover.html
If that doesn't give enough information, try your nearest airport.
They usually have lots of historical data.
