Gorgeous day today. colder inside than out

So out they go...for good!

Building's about half empty.
More tomorrow.
And look at the growth on these Chinese Poppies already...warm soil

'out for good'? You are brave Barb........ever since YOU planted those palms outside we have been cold here on the east coast......look what I came home to today after I picked up my daughter from swim practice.....it was suppose to be rain......never heard of white rain before....LOL.

Tim - I know I'm getting jealous too. We may get up to a foot of snow here on the east coast Friday!! I hope it's an April fools joke and we just get rain!!

Looks great Barb

I am moving a bunch of my palms outside today,mostly Trachys and
other cold hardy palms-least of which are the Filabustas,only
2 of those so,no prob to bring them in if it gets below 25F.

I don't believe we will see that though.

I really want to get the Bananas,Brugs etc in but I am being cautious this year-
last year everything was in the ground......
the high temp last April 1 was 90F.....no fooling!

Barb great to see those plants outside. I think the threat of a hard frost has passed. They should be safe.

But: all palms, even the Veitchia seedlings, are outside.

Gotta love the sun, as you can see from Tim we got some white stuff with a bunch of rain. 100 trachies covered in snow priceless

Good thing it's gone as fast as it came. The rain was nice even though it was cold. Sunny and 50's for the weekend, maybe there wrong and it will be 60's that would be nice!

Well, I should'a known...something about peeing into the wind?

No sooner was everything out, it got cold again, cold cold northwest wind, snow levels just above my place last night.
High today of only 9C 48F, lows near freezing the next three days.

Fortunately we got rain last night to break the drought...BUT not enough sun today to warm the plant roots, let alone the foliage.
Going to haul the bamboo palm, CIDP and the 5' grapefruit tree (no pic) back inside.
There should be an odometer on that floor dolly

That "white rain" must've been a shock in MA for Tim and Bill!
100 palms covered in snow must look gorgeous...sort of.
Tim's GH can only handle another inch of snow, right?

Looking at the pool water makes me shiver...we pulled the winter tarp out of the pool yesterday, it shredded at the deep end, so you can imagine what the bottom looks like. Great big gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts

Paul, let's hope you didn't get that foot of snow!

Erik...try some plant casters or a floor dolly, a tad easier on the back.

Nice to hear your Veitchia seedlings are popped, how about some pics over in Germination?

Jim, I remember your hot April from last year.
I think we'd all be happy with a warm one.
The Bananas and Brugs must be hurtin' by now and ready to go out...are they on the deck or in basement?

John, yup, hard frost I think is gone.
But the risk of a soft one

isn't fun.
Crap...I'm still wearing longjohns to work outdoors in this cold wind, a Siberian outflow?
You're lucky you don't get these winds where you are. Wanna trade?

Cameron, that's unseasonably cold for you folks!

Off to haul the buggers inside again...never anybody around when that needs doing.

Hi Barb,

I hate dragging in/out the plants every night......that gets old real quick. We are getting warmer now....explains why your getting colder!

The pool water always looks lots better with a big dose of chlorine! Gotta love that stuff.

The greenhouse is falling apart......nothing a roll of duct tape won't solve! I may actually remove the poly film tomorrow........my biggest concern is that it will fry my plants on a sunny, calm day if the sides fall down.

I hear you. It has been in and out the last few weeks.
I chickened out on the Veitchia; they are back in under the grow light where they are happy.
We have upper 30s F for a low coming Tuesday morning, but only a few der palms tenwill make the trip back in Monday:
I started that new weekend job ("bedding plant attendant") and my back is killing me from lifting flats of annuals all day.
But: summer will be here soon. I am thoroughly sunburned today, and tomorrow will water all day with sun, strong winds and highs in the 80s.
Our pool looks awful, too. We'll drain it and scrub the heck out of it, then re-fill with tap water. The salt water machine is on the fritz and so needs repair/replacement. Didn't someone once call a pool a hole in the ground you fill with money?
Oh, wait--that's a planting hole for palm trees.
