Here are some newly planted very root bound Yuccas. The Spanish dagger did quite a carving on my hands and arms. I`ve got to wait a few days to heal up before planting more

John,
What a beautiful bed already with just those few specimens.
The colour and texture variations are stunning.
BTW, you're supposed to wear a welder's helmet/aluminum gloves
Of course you were planting wearing a T-shirt in this weather.
Ouch!
Let me know if you need my chiropractor's phone number...

That's where 3% hydrogen peroxide comes in handy.
I got speared last year planting that now-dead big beauty yucca, nasty infection on one arm, maybe from bird poop?
Damn result: antibiotics!
These things are as deadly sharp as thorns on the CIDP.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Hi John,
nice Yucca specimens....keep us posted on their progress. I'm really interested to see how the Y. aloifolia and Y. rigida will fair in your climate since your really pushing the limits if your zone USDA 6b/7a. We barely get below 0F each season and can't get them to survive in my climate.

That featured spot in the circle at the end of your driveway is fabulous.

Thanks for the comment Aaron. Tim I`ll be using a little extra heat and cover protection for the Y. aloifolia and Y. rigida x. Barb that whole circle will be filled with planted palms and yuccas this year. Should make quite a selling point for people coming to buy palms and yuccas here.

That circle will be worth immeasurable advertising dollars...
Would make a great pic for the website too.
And with the pruned-up Oak branches, there'll be dappled shade over that whole section of the driveway.
Just need a power cord for the cash register

Are those elata? or thompsoniana?
It's a five-storey apartment block, you can bet nobody covers them in winter!

They would be elata or they might even be a form of glauca. Tompsoniana has no filiferas.

Thanks.
Thought glauca has a wider leaf?
Being an apartment block (versus a residence), will check with the manager.
He must know who maintains their outdoors.
Will get some shots when they flower.

I'm going to say 80% sure they are elata. There are, however, narrow leaved Y. glauca which look very similar.
As Tim said, once they bloom there will be no doubt!

I'm sure impressed with their late winter condition.
They took -19C for a low although downtown is likely a few degrees warmer than my place in winter.
The exposed corner lot means they get nailed with winter winds and salt/snow from road clearing.
Plus, I didn't see any irrigation drip/spaghetti tubes!
Great news!
