Kinetin is a powerful cytokinein whihc helps to promote things like shoot elongation. NAA is an auxin, which helps in root formation.

Thanks!
Nice to have someone who passed Chemistry on PN.
Just looked at the remote thermometer...95F inside the little teepees in the sun.
Gotta go open the top of plastic.

Barb I would definetly take off that plastic during the day 95f is to hot for a palm that just came out of cold storage.
Later`s root booster 10 bucks for one ltr. http://homehardware.ca/en/rec/index.htm ... =Later%27s

Yea it's a good idea to take the plastic off but....
don't worry if you forget last year Bill and I left
our Washys covered late(relatively) into spring and
we were kidding around about how hot it got in the enclosures-
now don't get me wrong here because the Washys were not growing or
anything but-one day it was 117F in my enclosure!
They are tough palms and can take the heat!

Yup they're in the right place for thattough palms and can take the heat!

hotter than a biscuit in that spot.
But I see John's point that they shouldn't reach 95F the day after they come out of cold storage.
Yours didn't have transplant shock the same day

Hi Barb,
you really have spring fever.....if I planted some palms out now we would have below normal temps for the next 2 months! Keep us posted on their progress. I want to see those Y. rostratas thriving too! My Y. rostratas did fine again.

Probably cabin fever
Encouraging that your rostratas did well.
I'll try to get palms and yuccas to some size before risking no heat in winter.
Washies and rostratas will be iffy here if I make a mistake.

Hi Barb,
Yuccas are pretty hardy when dry in winter. Keep winter rain/snow off the leaf head in winter and you results will be improved.
I just looked at my temp and it's in the 20's already......see.....I only spoke about planting early and the temps dropped.

But your y.rostrata without cover in winter is amazing.Keep winter rain/snow off the leaf head in winter
I'll not only have to cover, they'll need consistent heat in our long winters.
Barb
PS--yup, know what you mean about temp drop.

When they get bigger I dont think they will need any heat. I have never given any heat to my plants and the rostratas almost always make it. This year I did not cover any rostratas and and only two small ones lost the crowns, and it was a very damaging winter.lucky1 wrote: I'll not only have to cover, they'll need consistent heat in our long winters.

PS. do you have a test plant that can be left out in the winter without heat or cover?

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

My plan is to get all of them to some size before the slightest risk.
I'd volunteer a neighbour's plant, if anyone had one
Can't bring myself to "test one"...
Must be the mother thingy.

The secret to "testing" is over planting

...and if the subject survives is is the new favorite!
This of course leads to coddling and eventual death by "kindness"

Good idea to overplant, Jim.
When're you going to?
Hey Mike!
Nice to hear from you.
Glad you're seeing my new in-ground palms before the winter
Hope your stuff did fine this winter
Any chance we'll see some pics?

I find it very rewarding (knowledgable) when I find out how hardy a plant is.....whether it survives or not. If I had a dollar for every plant I tested and killed......I'd retire! LOLI'd volunteer a neighbour's plant, if anyone had one
