Help identifying this neat plant in my yard.

Hello all,

I was hoping that someone here may be able to help me identify this plant in my yard. I didn't pay much attention to it last year when I bought the house, but seeing that it stayed green all winter i'm curious as to what it is. Here's a photo, you can click on it for a larger version.

Yucca filamentosa (some call it Y. 'flaccida', but the 2 names are interchangable).

You must be in a similar climate to my own (USDA zone 5?) since you got some leaf burn on that baby!

I third that.

Wait until you see the creamy white bells on the flower stalks, rising 5 feet tall from the center.
You'll go ga ga and want 423 more...

Look around under the snow and see if you can find any palm seedlings.
If not, we've got some projects for you.

...and the palm/yucca passion begins!

Thanks, I was hoping it was something cool.

Paul Ont: I'm in Michigan ~zone 5b and based on its normal habitat i think it did pretty well for not having any protection.

Barb: I saw some photo's now that I know what to search for and you're right the flowers are amazing. I won't have any palm seedlings but I did notice it had a ton of pups(?) around it last year. I have a Trachy inside now that will be finding a permanent home outdoors this year once I find a suitable location.

You might want to plant those pups somewhere else in the yard before they get too big to move

Oooooh, a Trachy inside.
Hope you're putting it outdoors during warm days, and back in if frost threatens.
Or put it in a cool garage.
They generally hate being inside especially this time of year...too warm, too dry.

Good...one more person planting Trachy outside.
They love light breezes (but hate STRONG WIND), love warmth (but hate DRY HOT DESERT air).
