I said zone 4 or 5, becasue im finding ratings for zone 4 5 and 6 ( depending of variety and internet source). But the lowest ive found is zone 4, which is why i said its a good indicator for my zone here ( shes literaly down the street).

Hi Paul,
my low has been +4F so far......may drop lower in a few days (as measured at local elementary school).
Nantucket is the island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. That's the most remote island off Mass. I'm sure they don't drop below 0F too much. I'll try too see what there lows are annually.

You take care, Jesse! What is your bet for the passiflora we had a chance seeing in the November?

Im not sure..... its on the warmest spot in the yard: Full southern exposure, against a wall, witha stone path behind it. Even the dead of winter it gets a good 6 hours of sun. The part that is exposed is done fore, was done when we hit -25C in december. The Bottom halm, is under 3 feet tall pile of leaves, and about 2 feet across, and is covered 3 sides with plastic....
If it actualy passiflora cerulea, id give it a 70-80% chance. They are said to be root hady to zone 6, possibly 5 ( which that microclimate is definetly). But it was labeld blue and white passiflora (passiflora sp.), so im assuming it was a hybrid of some sort ( even though it had all the traits of the P. Cerulea)..
If it doesnt work, I have 7 Passiflora incarnata seeds that are soaking in lemon juice, waiting to be sown and statified....... Hardy to zone 6 full on ( is native all the way up to Ohio) , so if i can get then to sprout, ill have a replacement.... If it survives, well, Ill be more then elated, and hopefuly have 2 species of passiflora

Oh yeah! Love the both either the hiking or fishing! Those four years I had been living in Toronto I were hiking or fishing or canoeing each weekend. No chance doing that here in Kazakhstan

Ya the highway between the sault, all the way to manitoba, is brutal. I dont fly, i take the greyhound, or get driven. Its bad on a good day... the worse i seen was drving here, all the way to winnipeg in a colorado low snowstorm. I couldnt see anything except white out every window.. IT was fine after winnipeg... but once the terrain changed from rockcuts and small mountains, to prarie, plowing through 5 foot snow drifts on the highway gets you a little on edge.. LOL

Hi Erik,
todays 1/2" of forecasted snow turned into 2.5" and tomorrow nights storm is forecasted to be this:
<img src=http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/ ... wFcst2.png>
Bill and I are in the 10" zone.
But snow is good in winter except for the southwest cactus/yuccas....which I have.....go figure. This year may be a good test for one of my unprotected Yucca rostratas......we'll how it fairs.

Is it just me, or is the east coast getting worse and worse winters?????
As far back as i remember, lots of the big storms would miss most of the eastern seaboard, and hit canada. Sure, the east coast is right on the path that storms follow in the winter, and i knwo the east coast is usualy hammered a few times in the winter, but ive never seen maritime canada get hit by northeaster, after noreaster, with a few weatherbombs in there for good measure:P Theyve been getting hit my a noreaster or a big storm pretty much every week since november
Hopefully some of the older members can elighten me, because i seem to have grown up in a gerneraly warm time...
